Investment in the basics (roads, affordable High-Speed Internet etc.) supports those at the bottom most.
Climate change mitigation is also a key issue and of course it starts with local actions – we are getting more storms, more outages, more local flooding (I don’t need to mention our roads again do I ?) so our infrastructure has to be more resilient.
These are the main things I will be working towards
As someone who has lived in Kings County my whole life, I am familiar with the way things happen (or don’t happen) around here. I am frustrated with the lack of forward movement from the Council on many issues but mainly on those supporting and mandating infrastructure development and improvement (everything from high speed internet to public toilets!). It seems rural Kings County is always last to see any changes or benefits.
Community responses to Covid-19 and how we open up safely whilst protecting our most vulnerable.
Investment in resilient infrastructure to help rural poverty and mitigate the worst effects of climate change that we are starting to see.
We also need to find ways to attract new businesses and keep our current ones – which we haven’t been good at doing. Our red tape and planning rules need to be revisited for the 21st Century.
